Made: The 24 cup

Get to know our manufacturing processes as we roll out the new addition to the 24 series, the 24 stacking cup. We'll take a closer look at the "koppaheisen" – one of Figgjo's best inventions!

The latest addition to the 24 series is a new, perfectly balanced stacking cup with a sturdy handle. The simple, clean look is the result of yet another timeless piece we’re proud of.

So how do we make it? Each step is carefully thought for, all machines are adjusted and fine tuned for each single step of the process. When set up right though, it all flows like clockwork.

Below you’ll see one of many custom designed handle cutters, a critical piece invented for high precision cutting following the outer shape of the cup. The cut-off waste falls straight into a bucket and is put back into the clay mixer, making it one of many recycling steps in our production.

Handle with care

A handle is the joint where your hand connects to the cup. But it is so much more to it than that. Grip, balance and feel on one side, aesthetics on the other. A cup with handle is one of our most manual labour intensive pieces, with up to 52 human touching points throughout the process.

Porcelain manufacturing is indeed a craft, and there is no substitute for a trained eye and a steady hand. No matter how advanced the machines. the process.
